The team of Mercedes-Benz wanted to emphasize insights into the experience and the promise of autonomous driving.


amplify was commissioned for the user experience concept and its development. Resulting were embedded applications to support the drive, to monitor the functions for passengers and engineers to flexibly integrate mobile devices to consume the visualization.

The UX was structured into actionable information for the driver as part of the instrument cluster and for the passenger as a monitoring application in the infotainment system. The driver could interact to control the autonomous drive and to customize the user experience. Next to embedded displays, tablets have been integrated via WiFi, offering insight for the rear seat and cars following. Therefore a car2car communication solution has been developed insensitive to disruption and distance. The experience has been tested by Daimler R&D, presented to management and the press and introduced at IAA 2013.
